Maximizing the Basics: Implementation of the Weightlifting Derivatives to Optimize Performance
by Ambrose Serrano, MA, CSCS

This presentation focuses on maximizing the application of the weightlifting derivatives within the program design. Breaking down the movements to take advantage of the benefits each derivative provides will help coaches construct programs that optimize athletic development from general preparation to specific competition readiness. Each phase of training should be programmed with intent to optimize the long-term development of an athlete over the course of a season and throughout a career. If we skip steps within the progressions of the weightlifting movements, we are then also sacrificing the development of an athlete. Learning the advantages of each derivative allows a basic understanding of the weightlifting derivatives and their individual benefits.
