Check-in & On-site Registration
8:00 AM - 9:00 AM
Optimizing Training and Nutrition Through the Menstrual Cycle
by Carolyn Stocker, MS, RD, LD, CSCS

This presentation explores how aligning training and nutrition with the phases of the menstrual cycle can enhance performance, recovery, and well-being.  It will cover the physiological changes throughout the cycle, how they impact strength, endurance, and energy needs, and provide phase-specific strategies for optimal training and fueling.  Attendees will gain practical insights into adjusting workouts, managing symptoms, and tailoring nutrition to support hormonal fluctuations, helping athletes maximize performance and reduce injury risk.

9:00 AM - 10:00 AM
Programming for Force Transfer: Considerations for Long-Limbed Athletes
by Ashley Kowalewski, MS, CSCS, RSCC
  • Identify key biomechanical and physiological priorities for enhancing performance for long-limbed athletes with a focus on force transfer from the ground up
  • Have a framework for implementing integrated strength training, power development, and tendon care into a training program
  • Understand principles behind integrating injury mitigation and performance readiness principles into weekly preparation for consistent high-level outputs over the course of a season
10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Tiered Conditioning Groups: Creating a Scalable Program for Law Enforcement Recruits at the Academy Setting
by Jason Polakowski, ATC, CSCS
  • A brief history on law enforcement
  • Understanding the large variety of experience in physical training recruits currently have
  • What a tiered system for conditioning looks like
  • How to meet recruits where they are at to enhance performance within the entire class
  • Data using the tiered system at the Vermont Police Academy
  • Utilizing a structured program can bring a positive change and higher physical training standards to law enforcement
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Velocity Based Training: Beyond the Basics
by Williamson Ruth, MA, CSCS
  • Augment strength training programs using percentages or rate of perceived exertion with data from velocity based training
  • Engage athletes using velocity based training data as a platform for discussion rather than a deterministic approach to selecting weights or performing sets and reps
  • Consider different ways of implementing velocity based training methods in strength training programs for different athletes, sports, and phases of a training cycle
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Lunch (provided)
1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) for Rehab and Performance
by Kyle Coffey, DPT, PT
  • Understand the basic science behind blood flow restriction (BFR)
  • Review the practical considerations and safety with use of BFR
  • Identify the traditional applications of BFR in rehabilitation and performance
  • Discuss some ‘out-of-the-box’ applications of BFR in rehabilitation and performance
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Developing the Overhead & Rotational Athlete: A Former Thrower’s Perspective
by Ashley Kowalewski, MS, CSCS, RSCC
  • Be more informed on how to build stability before power for these athletes
  • Have a better understanding on how to train the whole system, not just the arm
  • Understand how to match the training to the time of year to maintain tissue health and capacity so that athletes can have a better chance of staying healthy and available throughout the course of their competitive season
3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Speed Training and Development for All Levels
by Jessica Johnson, MS, TSAC-F
  • Understand Key Principles of Speed Development - Participants will be able to explain the biomechanical and physiological principles of acceleration, maximum velocity, and change of direction, and identify how these principles influence training program design
  • Apply Coaching Strategies and Drills - Participants will demonstrate evidence-based speed drills and cueing strategies that enhance sprint mechanics, including posture, force application, stride frequency, and stride length
  • Design and Implement Practical Speed Training Progressions - Participants will be able to design a progressive speed development session that integrates warm-up, technical drills, resisted/assisted sprint methods, and sport-specific applications for athletes at varying levels
