Maintain Your Certification

NSCA recertification runs on a fixed three-year cycle for all certificants. To renew your certification, you must earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) — credits awarded for completing acceptable educational activities — before each three-year cycle ends. Earning CEUs also helps you stay current with evidence-based best practices and continue to grow professionally.

To maintain your certification, you’ll need to: (1) earn and report your required CEUs, (2) keep your CPR/AED certification up to date, and (3) complete the recertification process before the cycle ends.

For more details, download the Maintain Your Certification Handbook and visit the Stay Certified page.

Current Recertification Cycle:

January 1, 2024-December 31, 2026

Recertification Deadline:

December 31, 2026

Determine How Many CEUs You Need

Your CEU requirements depend on when you earned your certification within the current recertification cycle and can only be accrued after the date of certification. Consult the table on the Stay Certified page to confirm your exact CEU requirements and recertification fees.

Earn CEUs in At Least 2 Categories

Explore the four CEU categories and eligible activities — such as events, quizzes, and professional development. You must complete CEU activities in at least two categories, though you're welcome to earn in all four. Choose opportunities that align with your goals, schedule, and learning style.

    • All CEUs earned through the NSCA are automatically accepted.
    • CEUs from outside sources must align with your NSCA certification’s scope and meet recertification policies outlined in the Maintain Your Certification Handbook.
    • If you hold multiple NSCA certifications, some CEUs may apply toward more than one recertification. See the Handbook for more details.
