Al Vermeil is the only strength and conditioning coach to win world championship rings in both the National Football League (NFL) and the National Basketball Association (NBA), with the 1982 San Francisco 49ers and the six-time champion Chicago Bulls. A recognized pioneer in the field, Vermeil was inducted into the Strength and Conditioning Coaches Hall of Fame in 2003 and was honored as a Legend in the Field by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa) in 2007. He is also a member of multiple athletic halls of fame, including those of Moreau Catholic High School and the Titleist Performance Institute. In 2014, Moreau Catholic High School named its sports complex Al Vermeil Field in his honor, recognizing his lifelong impact on athletic performance.
