Alice Read joined the Vassar athletic department in the spring of 2018 as the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach. In 2022, Read was promoted to be the Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Performance. In this role, she uses her more than ten years of experience to implement and manage the sports performance needs for Vassar's 25 varsity and four varsity club sports. Additionally, Read serves as support and educator to administrators, coaches and student-athletes in exercise science and training modalities to maximize performance. Read, manages the daily operations in the Kenyon Hall Iron Brewer Training Facility and supervises the Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach. As theBrewer's strength and conditioning coach, Read has built her success at Vassar teaching a foundation of fundamental movement patterns to enhance athletic performance. Her coaching emphasizes an environment that commands accountability, hard work, respect, inclusivity and competitiveness. Professionally, Read is a founder and Chair of the Liberty League Strength & Conditioning Committee. As the leader of this organization, she has created a respected group designed to provide a means of open communication, networking, and extended resources to further each members development. Read also served as a mentor for the NSCA Womens Committee pilot mentorship program in the summer of 2023. She currently sits on the NSCA College Coaches Professional Development Group and the NSCA Foundations Grants and Assistantships Committee. Prior to Vassar, Read served as a Volunteer Strength and Conditioning Coach and Assistant Alpine Skiing Coach at Williams College and the Senior Assistant Director of Fitness Programs at the University of Montana. There, she also served as a Graduate Student Volunteer Strength Coach with the UM Athletics Department. Read has additional experience working at Bates College as a per diem strength coach and at Dartmouth College where she completed a NSCA assistantship.Read earned her B.S in Applied Exercise Science at the University of New England, where she was a member of the womens soccer team. She then earned her M.S from the University of Montana in Health and Human Performance, with a focus in exercise science. Read is a Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach with distinction (RSCC*D) and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength & Conditioning Association. In addition, she is also a Level One Sport Performance Coach through USA Weightlifting and has a Functional Movement Screen (FMS) level one certification.
