A major goal of the Foundation is to maximize assets to increase grants and scholarships for NSCA members. Donations come from contributors and selected sponsors who are also dedicated to science and research. With the growth of the Foundation, the NSCA has the ability to give back to its membership, affirming its mission of being the worldwide authority on strength and conditioning, supporting and disseminating research-based knowledge and its practical application to improve athletic performance and fitness.
Academician/Researcher Position
A member of the NSCA actively working at an accredited college, university, or institution for higher learning and whose job description includes an emphasis on research. Should hold a doctoral degree. 3-year Term (7/15/2025-7/15/2028)
Public Member Position
Provide a diverse an external perspective, ensuring transparency, and helping guide the NSCA Foundation in fulfilling its mission while staying aligned with NSCA member needs and values. 3-year Term (7/15/2025-7/15/2028)

PUBLIC MEMBER
Public member requirements for a nonprofit board position include experience and knowledge of nonprofit management, along with a strong commitment to the organization's mission. While not a member of the organization, the public member should have a solid understanding of governance, strategic planning, and community engagement, ensuring they can contribute effectively to board discussions and decisions. Additionally, they should bring an external perspective that enhances the board’s ability to serve the broader community.
Take the first step in the application process by submitting a CV/Resume and letter of intent (750 words or less) indicating NSCA and NSCA Foundation involvement, how you will promote and advocate for intellectual diversity, and why you want to serve on the Board of Directors by November 15th to foundation@nsca.com.
There are several rounds in the application process involving both subjective and objective scoring. The total summation of points and rankings are used as a tool to guide the NSCA Foundation Board of Directors on who may be most qualified to sit as a member of the Board of Directors.

NSCA Foundation Board of Directors Candidate Application. The application consists of the following components:

A cover letter to the NSCA Foundation Board of Directors outlining your involvement with the NSCA, NSCA Foundation, and why you are qualified to sit on the Board of Directors.
The NSCA Foundation Board of Directors will review round two materials of applicants, evaluate the applicants, and select the appropriate candidates.
One of the key qualifications of a board member is to serve as a volunteer leader. There are many opportunities; here are a few for you to explore:
Influencing/negotiation – Persuades others; builds consensus through give and take; gains cooperation from others to obtain information and accomplish goals; facilitates “win-win” situations.
Oral communication – Makes clear and convincing oral presentations to individuals or groups; listens effectively and clarifies information as needed; facilitates an open exchange of ideas and fosters an atmosphere of open communication.
Political savvy – Identifies the internal and external politics that impact the work of the organization; approaches each problem situation with a clear perception of organizational and political reality; recognizes the impact of alternative courses of action.
Written communication – Expresses facts and ideas in writing in a clear, convincing, and organized manner.
Problem-solving – Identifies and analyzes problems; distinguishes between relevant and irrelevant information to make logical decisions; provides solutions to individual and organizational problems.
Decisiveness – Exercises good judgment by making sound and well-informed decisions; perceives the impact and implication of decisions; makes effective and timely decisions, even when data is limited or solutions produce unpleasant consequences; is proactive and achievement-oriented.
Integrity/honesty – Instills mutual trust and confidence; creates a culture that fosters high standards of ethics; behaves in a fair and ethical manner toward others and demonstrates a sense of corporate responsibility and commitment to public service.
Vision – Takes a long-term view and acts as a catalyst for organizational change; builds a shared vision with others. Influences others to translate vision into action.
The primary responsibilities of the NSCA Foundation Board are to oversee the activities of the Foundation, to set goals, and to provide the means to accomplish these goals in accordance with the Mission Statement and the needs of the NSCA membership.
TIME COMMITMENT
Board positions are very active and it is important to understand the amount of work that is required to effectively participate in and govern the growth of the Association.
Candidates cannot be an employee of the NSCA, NSCA Foundation, or NSCA Affiliate and must be able to pass a background check and disclose investigations, convictions, infractions, sanctions or periods of ineligibility. They may be ineligible if convicted of certain felonies, misdemeanor convictions, sanctioned for academic misconduct, suspension from a place of employment, or period of ineligibility from a sport or sports organization.
